Curious to learn more about the Assisted Home Performance program and if you qualify? Check out some of the frequently asked questions below:
What is Assisted Home Performance?
A subsidy program that will help pay for up to 50% of home improvements, the Assisted Home Performance program is available to customers that meet the income requirements.
Where does the money come from?
The program is regulated by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) and paid for by the utility companies.
What are the income limits?
This is dependent on the number of people that live in your home, and the limits are updated every year. Contact our Buffalo HVAC team for more information, or see the links below:
What qualifies as home improvements?
There are a variety of services that qualify for this program:
- Checking and sealing duct work
- Repairing heating systems
- Upgrading hot water heating systems
- Using ENERGY STAR appliances and lighting
In order to meet the requirements to quality for the Assisted Home Performance program, your home improvement must pay for itself in 10 years through the utility savings. This will be determined through an audit process and prevents contractors for overcharging for their services. It also protects the utility company against customers who want home improvements that won’t necessarily save them any money.
How Do I Apply?
In order to apply, just stop by our office to pick up a form. Our technicians often carry these forms with them in their trucks, so feel free to ask them as well. When filling it out, you will need to prove your household income. You can also use the link below to apply:
When will I know if I’m approved?
The general timeline varies for each customer. It generally takes about 2-6 weeks to find out if you’re approved, but this can vary depending on how busy EFS is and how much information you provide.
After I find out I’m approved, what is the next step?
The first step will be to perform a whole-house audit. If your income is improved and you provide a 12-month history of your electric and fuel bills, you may be able to receive a free Green Jobs NY audit. Our Buffalo heating and AC team will test your systems and appliances and then check for leaks and any other safety issues with all your gas-burning appliances.
