What is Assisted
Home Performance?
Assisted Home
Performance is a subsidy program that pays for up to 50% of qualified home
improvements to customers that meet the income qualifications.
Where does the
money come from?
This program is
funded by the utility companies, and is regulated by NYSERDA (New York State
Energy Research and Development Authority)
What is the income
limits?
The income limits are
updated on an annual basis and is determined by the number of people that live
in the home. Contact us for details.
What qualifies as a home improvement?
- Insulation upgrades
- Air sealing the building to reduce drafts and cold spots
- Duct Sealing
- Heating system repair or replacement
- Domestic hot water heating upgrades
- ENERGY STAR appliances and lighting
- Other cost-effective energy saving measures
There are some requirements that also must be met for Assisted Home Performance with Energy Star. Your improvement must pay for itself in 10 years through utility savings. This is determined after the audit process. This prevents contractors from overcharging for their services as well as protects the utility companies from someone who just wants new windows or a door that will not save them any money.
How do I apply?
The application is available at our office as
well as most of our techs have them on their trucks. You will need to prove
your household income.
How long does it
take to get approved?
That
depends on how busy EFS is, and how much information you provide up front. The
average time frame is 6 to 8 weeks.
After I'm
approved, what's next?
After you
are approved we perform a whole house audit. With your income approval, and 12
month history of your fuel and electric you can receive a FREE Green Jobs Green NY
audit. This includes tests on your Buffalo heating, air conditioning and other appliances. We measure the home, test for
leaks and safety check all gas burning appliances.
